This note is to point out the differences between Rice/Wafer Paper Toppers & Icing/Frosting sheet toppers as I see it :)
All are Fully Edible but have different textures, taste & Appearance.
The Rice/Wafer Paper:
Size: Can be made any size up to A4 rectangles.
Advantages/Disadvantages:
Wafer Sheets are great for cupcakes. They just sit on top of a buttercream swirl.
Wafer sheets will not bend/fall onto a dome shaped cupcake like an Icing topper does.
For large images on large cakes, as the wafer is a little stiffer, the icing on the cake needs to be level as it wont mould to the shape of the cake like an icing sheet does.
Wafer sheets may be affected by the moisture which may lead to disintegration of parts of the wafer. If the icing is too wet the topper may curl if placed onto the cake for a long period of time.
It is always best to place the toppers onto the cake on the day of serving & as late as possible.
Wafer paper should never be refrigerated, it should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight.
Wafer sheets are Not easily cut when on a big cake so may need to be removed before the 'cutting' of the cake.
Most Importantly: Main Con: As wafer paper is slightly translucent and absorbs the ink, the clarity and colour is not as vibrant as it would be if the image is printed on Icing/Frosting Sheets or on paper.
The Icing on the cake needs to be light in colour or it may show through the toppers if it is too dark.
The Rice/Wafer CARD:
Size: Can be made any size up to A4 rectangles.
Advantages/Disadvantages:
Wafer Card Sheets are great for cupcakes. They just sit on top of a buttercream swirl.
Wafer sheets are very stiff so sit on the icing & stay in shape for much longer than wafer paper.
Wafer card will not bend/fall onto a dome shaped cupcake like an Icing topper does.
Not recommended for larger full sheet images, as the wafer card is thick and not easily cut so would have to be removed before the cutting of the cake.

Wafer paper should never be refrigerated, it should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight.
Most Importantly: Main Adv: As wafer card is thick the Image is much Clearer and Vibrant in Colour than the Wafer Paper and the Wafer Card holds it's shape perfectly lasting for hours on end on Cupcakes.
The Frosting/Icing Sheets:
Size: Cupcake Toppers can be any size.
Large Cake Images: Round 190mm(7.5") or Rectangle 190mm(7.5") x 28mm(10")
Advantages/Disadvantages:
Images on the icing toppers are of a superior quality than that printed on wafer paper.
You get a clearer image with better colour intensity on Icing Sheets.
Icing Sheets are easily cut when on a big cake so don't need to be removed before the 'cutting' of the cake.
Icing Sheets are more flexible so will fall to the shape of the cake/cupcake if required and are great as cake wraps for the sides of a cake.
You can place Icing sheets on hard set fondant discs to make them stay flat if required.
Icing Sheets are not easily affected by moisture like the wafer sheets.
Icing sheets should be placed onto a cake that is room temperature or it may bubble.
Icing Sheets just peel of the backing sheet ready to be placed on your cake.
I hope this helps explain the difference between the 3 Edible Products I offer.
